4th Infantry Division

who distinguished himself by outstandingly meritorious
service in connection with military operations against a
hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. During the period
June 1969 to April 1970
while serving as a Senior Medical Aidman
he consistently manifested exemplary professionalism and
initiative in obtaining outstanding results. His rapid as-
sessment and solution of numerous problems inherent in a
counterinsurgency environment greatly enhanced the allied
effectiveness against a determined and aggressive enemy.
Despite many adversities, he invariably performed his
duties in a resolute and efficient manner. Energetically
applying his sound judgment and extensive knowledge, he
has contributed materially to the successful accomplishment
of the United States mission in the Republic of Vietnam.
His loyalty, diligence and devotion to duty were in keeping
with the highest traditions of the military service and re-
flect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

      Lance Corporal Thomas William HOLLIS, of Gillespie, Illinois was the son of Mrs. Sue HOLLIS.
      He served during the Vietnam War, as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps with the 3rd Recon Battalion, 3rd Marine Division
      Beginning his tour of duty on March 13, 1967, he was killed during hostile action on January 28, 1968 in Quang Tri province of South Vietnam.

      He was born on October 18, 1926 in Benld, Illinois. Twenty-three years of his life was spent in the United States Marine Corps, serving in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
      Sergeant Major John Marion MALNAR lost his life in action in Quang Tri Province of South Vietnam 0n May 2, 1968.

On December 29, 1968, he was wounded by hostile fire, received a gunshot to the left leg.
He received the Purple Heart medal while in the 67th Evacuation Hospital, Qui Nhon, South Vietnam.

Private First Class Gary Wayne PRICE was Killed In Action, on May 6, 1967 and is buried in Bunker Hill City Cemetery, Bunker Hill, Illinois.
